TV Land's Younger Isn't Totally Cancelled, But It Is Moving Networks
Do not worry: TV Land's cult hit Younger has not been cancelled. After five seasons on the network, it is on the move. The comedy, which stars Sutton Foster and Hilary Duff among others, is switching things up for its next season. So, where is it headed? Well, let's just say Kevin Costner's hit series Yellowstone is gaining a neighbor. That's right. Younger is headed to Paramount Network for its sixth season.
The dramatic comedy had already been renewed for Season 6 ahead of its fifth season premiere on TV Land. So, the shift should not be cause for concern regarding the series' future. According to Paramount Network, Younger Season 5 had its highest-rated season to date among the 18-49 demo. And besides a channel change, everything else should remain the same. So, fans should not expect any on-screen ramifications from the move.
While Younger's fate was not much of a mystery, the reason for its move is initially more of one, although there is room for insight. Younger is the creation of Sex and the City creator Darren Star, and it has developed a devoted audience since debuting back in 2015. Another series from Star, entitled Emily in Paris, is slated to premiere on Paramount Network next summer as part of an upcoming dramedy night on Thursdays.
Keith Cox, who is the President of Development and Original Programming for TV Land, Paramount Network, and CMT, said that he believed Younger would be the "perfect centerpiece" to the mid-mentioned network's Thursday night line-up. The television adaptation of First Wives Club will kick the dramedy night off in January, Younger will pick things up when it begins airing in the spring, and then Emily in Paris will take over when it debuts next summer.
Paramount Network continues to build its repertoire of programming, finding a huge hit with the neo-Western Yellowstone. In the middle of summer, the network scrapped the television adaptation of Heathers. Adding Younger to its library could potentially add to the audience it was hoping to find with Heathers. This is not the first time a TV Land series has switched to Paramount Network.
The half-hour comedy American Woman was originally set to air on TV Land before it, like Younger, made the switch to Paramount Network. Here is hoping the new network will kick off Younger's move with a marathon of the show's run up until now. While binge-watching on a streaming service has its appeal, an old fashion network marathon still has its charms.
The sixth season of Younger will premiere in the spring of 2019 on Paramount Network and air Thursdays, presumably in the 9 p.m. ET time slot. You can currently stream the first four seasons of Younger on Hulu. For when and where new television shows will arrive this autumn, check out CinemaBlend's guide to TV's fall premieres.
