The Queen Star Claire Foy Joins SNL's Spot-On Netflix Spoof

Netflix, we love you, but this is so very true. The Crown star Claire Foy hosted Saturday Night Live last night and took some loving shots at her show's streaming service in the "Netflix Commercial" sketch. The bit mocks Netflix's seemingly endless scroll of movies and TV shows -- so many, even the execs haven't seen them all -- with series like Kennymeade Depot lasting for three seasons even though only one woman watches. Check it out:

How is Netflix doing it? They buy everything! Yes, the SNL commercial jokes that Netflix is even buying content from itself -- including giving Claire Foy's queen a new role:

We love Claire Foy as Queen Elizabeth so much, we're sending her back to high school.Claire Foy: I'm in over my crown! It's Saved By The Crown!

Gotta love that "pitch meeting" for new series:

Pitch: So, this show is about a girl named Jenny...Executive: Yes, here's money. [literally throws money at her] Go make it!

Honestly, some of the fake shows in the sketch might even be worth adding to My List. That gritty Family Matters reboot? I'd watch it. I might even watch Leslie Jones getting batteries, especially if it has car chases. I might even be the second person to watch Kennymeade Depot if it ever really shows up. Netflix owns me -- at least for an episode or two before I move on to something else, then forget that the previous show is still waiting for me to resume.

There's something about Claire Foy that just lends herself to period pieces, and SNL had her play a not-so-enthusiastic wife during this PBS World War I documentary sketch:

Claire Foy got to show her modern range a bit in the "Good Morning Goomah" sketch with Kate McKinnon:

Claire Foy is now done with The Crown after two award-winning runs as Queen Elizabeth II. Olivia Colman is taking over the lead role as one of the older stars in the time jump of Season 3.

Other than SNL, Claire Foy seems to be leaving TV roles behind for films. She recently stepped into the role of Lisbeth Salander in The Girl In The Spider's Web, and played Janet Armstrong opposite Ryan Gosling in First Man. We'll have to wait and see what's next for her.

Saturday Night Live will continue next week with Aquaman hero Jason Momoa as host, followed by Matt Damon, who cameo-ed earlier this season. Here's what else is still ahead on TV in 2018, and ahead in 2019.

Gina Carbone

Gina grew up in Massachusetts and California in her own version of The Parent Trap. She went to three different middle schools, four high schools, and three universities -- including half a year in Perth, Western Australia. She currently lives in a small town in Maine, the kind Stephen King regularly sets terrible things in, so this may be the last you hear from her.
