Why Caroline's Vampire Diaries Gown From Klaus Is Returning On Legacies
Not for the first time, I'm wishing Caroline Forbes would be in the next episode of Legacies. It sounds like the March 14 Episode 14 will be packed with more nostalgia for fans of The Vampire Diaries and The Originals, while also serving fans of Legacies' young ships.
In this case, Caroline would be returning to the Salvatore school in time for it to host the Miss Mystic Falls pageant. As The Vampire Diaries fans will recall, Caroline won the pageant back in Season 1. That's not the only time Miss Mystic Falls was mentioned on TVD, but the pageant is also not the only little nod to TVD in this episode.
It looks like Hope Mikaelson's (Danielle Rose Russell) gorgeous blue gown for the pageant episode is the same one her dad Klaus Michaelson (Joseph Morgan) gave Caroline (Candice King) in The Vampire Diaries Season 3, Episode 14, "Dangerous Liaisons."
You can see Hope in the dress in The CW's episode promo for "Let's Just Finish the Dance":
Be still my Klaroline heart. The blue ball gown rises from the ashes like Landon himself! (Too soon?) I am not the only one to be excited for this little nostalgia nod:
Klaus gave that dress to Caroline when he invited her as his date to his family's formal ball. So Caroline must've given it back, and then Klaus either left it to his daughter Hope -- or maybe Caroline or Alaric gave it to Hope figuring it should stay in the Mikaelson family. (Klaus also gave Caroline another dress for prom in Season 4.)
How do you think Lizzie Saltzman will feel about Hope wearing the same dress her mother once wore? Lizzie is the twin who most takes after Caroline. She will of course be wanting to win Miss Mystic Falls, but The CW's synopsis for the episode shows that Josie also secretly wants to win.

Lizzie is usually very competitive with and jealous of Hope, but maybe that's about to change. It looks like Lizzie and Hope will be getting closer, maybe starting in this episode. And in next week's episode Hope even asks for Lizzie's help. That's character development for you!
Back to this episode, though. On top of everything else, this is when Hope's ex-flame Roman from The Originals shows up. Not sure why, but it puts our newly risen phoenix Landon "on alert."
Also, Hope looks so upset in the Episode 14 promo because she "secretly deals with a recent trauma that's causing her magic to go on the fritz." The trauma must be related to Landon dying last week (thanks, MG), only to rise again. Right? His death hit Hope very hard, and probably brought back memories of losing both of her parents. Speaking of losing a parent, Roman had a role in play in the death of Hayley, so maybe that memory will also resurface for Hope.
Legacies Season 1 will have 16 episodes, so there are only a couple left before the big finale and its major cliffhangers. Thankfully, The CW has already renewed The Originals/Vampire Diaries spinoff for Season 2, and we just hope Paul Wesley decides to return to direct again and/or appear as a monster in one of those 2019-2020 episodes.
Legacies continues Thursdays at 9 p.m. ET as one of the many shows now airing in midseason 2019.
Gina grew up in Massachusetts and California in her own version of The Parent Trap. She went to three different middle schools, four high schools, and three universities -- including half a year in Perth, Western Australia. She currently lives in a small town in Maine, the kind Stephen King regularly sets terrible things in, so this may be the last you hear from her.
