Marvel's Falcon And Winter Soldier First Look: Zemo Finally Gets His Mask

Baron Zemo Captain America: Civil War

Marvel announced its Phase 4 lineup at San Diego Comic-Con, and for once, the slate wasn't entirely limited to movies. Marvel Studios has a solid lineup of Disney+ shows on the way that will expand the MCU, with The Falcon and the Winter Soldier just one of the series set to make a big splash in the future. One of the ways it will do that is with the return of a noted MCU and Marvel Comics villain, Helmut Zemo.

Zemo hasn't been seen in person since Captain America: Civil War, but he will have a notable role in the Disney+ series. Additionally, Daniel Brühl's character will be donning a look closer to his comic book counterpart, as evidenced by Hall H attendees who were treated to a look of the villain in his iconic purple mask over Comic-Con weekend. Now, a picture of that first look has hit the web, courtesy of Brühl himself.

The mask doesn't look to be directly inspired by Marvel comics' take on the character, as the eyes look to be more mechanical and almost goggle-like. Obviously the photo is a bit blurry, but it looks like the same technology used to create the eyes on Spider-Man's suit. I would wager there's some technical element to the eye portion, which may help Helmut Zemo in whatever plans he has in store for Cap's former partners.

Helmut Zemo's re-emergence in the MCU is interesting to say the least, as audiences last saw him in a containment cell being mocked by Everett Ross. Though apprehended, Zemo ended up succeeding in his goal of creating a riff in the Avengers, which had a major impact on the MCU. Had the Avengers not spent so much time apart, perhaps they would've seen the threat of Thanos much sooner than Avengers: Infinity War.

Now it appears that Helmut Zemo has escaped in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, or is at least in a position that allows his acolytes to continue being a pain for Marvel's heroes. Explicit details on the series are under wraps, perhaps because some plot points of the series will be addressed or referenced in upcoming Marvel movies.

One thing that is known about The Falcon and the Winter Soldier is that it will broach the topic of Captain America in some way, and show how things have moved forward ever since Captain America passed on the mantle to Anthony Mackie's Falcon. Sebastian Stan will reprise his role as Bucky/The Winter Soldier, and of course, Daniel Brühl is back as Helmut Zemo. Are these two heroes strong enough to thwart his plans?

The Future Of The Avengers: Who Will Be On The New Team?

It'll be a while before Marvel fans find out, as The Falcon and the Winter Soldier isn't slated to arrive on Disney+ until fall 2020. Stick with CinemaBlend in the meantime for more updates on it, other goings on with MCU projects, and the latest in television and movie news.
