Modern Family’s Sarah Hyland has already lined up her next network TV role. The actress’ long-running comedy is getting ready to embark on its eleventh and final season. Before it has even started airing, Hyland has another series in the works, and she will not be switching networks for it.

Sarah Hyland has signed on to executive produce and star in an untitled comedy at ABC. The project is moving along nicely. It already has a put-pilot commitment from the network, per THR. If it gets picked up, it would mean Hyland staying at the network home of Modern Family. This could be a savvy move for ABC. What is the potential show about?

First, it is vital to know who Sarah Hyland is teaming up with for the series. Hyland will executive produce the series with The Big Sick’s co-writer, Emily V. Gordon. Hers and Hyland’s show is said to be based on both of their lives. It is not clear which facets of their lives the show will focus on. Will it be their careers?

Will Sarah Hyland play someone who has just gotten off of a long-running comedy series? Could the show be about Emily V. Gordon's screenwriting career? Maybe. There is another possibility. Both Hyland and Gordon have overcome severe health struggles in their lives.

Sarah Hyland has kidney dysplasia. She has undergone two kidney transplants. The first in 2012 and the second in 2017, per People. The same year she sounded off on those critical of her weight.

As for Emily V. Gordon, she became gravely ill, which resulted in her being put in a medically induced coma. She was subsequently diagnosed with Still’s disease, per The New Yorker. Gordon’s struggles with the illness and subsequent relationship with her now-husband, Kumail Nanjiani, were depicted in the critically-acclaimed film, The Big Sick. Time will tell what Gordon and Hyland’s new show will revolve around.

Sarah Hyland finding her next TV show and it not being a Modern Family spinoff is a bit foreboding. The comedy seemed to set the stage for one starring Hyland’s Haley Dunphy. At least, her storyline as a new mom seemed perfect for a spinoff. Maybe she can do both? It would be a rare thing to pull off.

Of course, Sarah Hyland’s new series would have to be picked up to series, first. So, do not rule out that Modern Family spinoff happening eventually. ABC is certainly interested in one getting off the ground.

Unlike Modern Family, Hyland’s potential show is set to be a multi-camera sitcom, like Friends and The Big Bang Theory. Prepare for her to explore comedy in a different realm in that regard.

Some other heavy hitters will join the Modern Family star and Emily V. Gordon on their potential TV show. This Is Us’ showrunners Isaac Aptaker and Elizabeth Berger are also on-board to executive produce. Sarah Hyland's next TV project has a lot going for it.

You can check out Sarah Hyland in Modern Family Season 11 when it premieres Wednesday, September 25 at 9 p.m. ET on ABC. It is among the series returning this fall.
