Modern Family is coming to an end. Do not worry though, as it is not all bad news. In fact, fans will be getting one more season of the long-running show. CinemaBlend’s Nick Venable was at the TCA Winter Press Tour when ABC’s president, Karey Burke, made the announcement about what's coming up for Modern Family. Regarding the show’s future and impending end, Burke said:

I am so proud to announce that Modern Family is returning for its 11th and final season. We look forward to celebrating this landmark comedy throughout the year. And I reserve the right to be the saddest person in the room that it will end its remarkable run.

Bittersweet news indeed. Modern Family is now in the midst of its tenth and now penultimate season. Hence, fans of the popular comedy will have one more to enjoy before the series officially wraps. The news is sad, albeit not entirely without forewarning, as those involved with the show have been talking about a possible end for a while now.

In addition, the news about Modern Family’s fate falls in line with Julie Bowen’s confident belief the series would get Season 11. So, the series will get one more season to tie up its story.

Season 10 is still not over yet, so there is that to look forward to as well. Having another season assures there will be plenty of episodes to sort out all of the stories at play in Season 10. The current season has already dealt with the death of one character and the surprise pregnancy of another.

Speaking of the latter, could Haley Dunphy be the star of her own spinoff? Considering how popular Modern Family has been for ABC and the plot it currently has the eldest Dunphy daughter in, it seems plausible. Haley is currently expecting, a plot shocker in and of itself. Adding to that is the surprise that Haley is pregnant with twins. In other words, Haley is starting her own "modern family" this season.

Modern Family’s co-creator previously addressed a potential spinoff. At the time, Christopher Lloyd seemed to indicate that if talks happen, the team will have plenty of time left to have them. Fans will have to watch and see if a spinoff eventually happens down the line.

Modern Family is among several shows to officially be picked up for another season by ABC. The comedy joins Shark Tank, breakout drama A Million Little Things, and reality staple Bachelor in Paradise in receiving season renewals. Medical drama The Good Doctor has also been renewed for a third season.

As for Modern Family, fans of the comedy have a long way to go before saying goodbye. As of 2020, television will be down two cornerstone comedies. That is no laughing matter. Premiering in 2009, Modern Family has had an incredible run.

Season 11 should premiere sometime next fall. Take time to savor Season 10 while you can. New episodes of Modern Family air Wednesdays at 9 p.m. ET on ABC. The series is among a lot of shows returning with new content this winter.
