Sean Bean is joining Snowpiercer Season 2, even before Season 1 finally shows up on TNT. There's a good chance Bean won't die in his new role, since he recently made a point to say he's been turning down roles where his character dies because that's become too expected. He has "died" so many times we've even ranked his on-screen deaths.
At any rate, let this news make you even more excited for the Snowpiercer TV series, which has been in development for ages and will finally premiere in spring 2020.
Deadline didn't have details on Sean Bean's role, other than to say he'll be a new series regular in Season 2, which is now in production.
Snowpiercer Season 1 stars Hamilton's Daveed Diggs and Oscar winner Jennifer Connelly. The TNT series is based on that amazing 2013 movie starring Chris Evans, but also that film's original source material, the 1982 French graphic novel Le Transperceneige.
Snowpiercer's dystopian story is set about seven years after the world has become a frozen wasteland. We follow the remaining survivors, who ride a perpetually-moving train that circles the globe, as class warfare and survival politics play out. Snowpiercer Season 1 also stars Alison Wright, Mickey Sumner, Susan Park, Iddo Goldberg, Katie McGuinness, Lena Hall, Annalise Basso, Sam Otto, Roberto Urbina, Sheila Vand, and Jaylin Fletcher.
The Walking Dead's Steven Ogg and Girl Meets World's Rowan Blanchard have recurring and guest roles in Season 1 but they have already been promoted to series regulars for Season 2.
I haven't read the graphic novel but I saw the Snowpiercer movie, so I'm trying to imagine how Snowpiercer Season 1 might leave things to allow for Sean Bean to show up as a new series regular in Season 2.
Whatever the case, it'll be great to see Game of Thrones' Sean Bean back on screen for another series regular role. Not that he's been idle. You may have seen him in The Oath Season 1 on Sony Crackle. He was also in another near-future-dystopian series in Curfew, which aired earlier this year on Spectrum. Bean also recently co-starred in the World on Fire war miniseries. On the film front, Bean has a role in the sci-fi thriller Possessor, which should be coming to theaters in 2020.
The Snowpiercer TV series has taken a long, winding, dramatic role to the screen. It had several delays from creative differences and production issues. In May 2019, Snowpiercer was announced for a 2020 second quarter release but on TBS instead of TNT. At that time, Season 2 was already ordered. However, the network decision was reversed in September, so Snowpiercer will premiere on TNT when it arrives in the second quarter of 2020, aka the spring.
Are you planning to watch Snowpiercer when it premieres this spring on TNT? Now that we know Sean Bean will be in the second season, I suppose that is pretty good incentive to watch the first. Keep up with everything still airing on TV this year with our handy 2019 fall TV premiere schedule.
