Better Call Saul Teases Saul Goodman's Arrival And Revealed When Season 5 Will Premiere

Better Call Saul Season 5 Nacho and Jimmy/Saul AMC

Finally! Better Call Saul Season 5 now has a premiere date -- and a teaser and a bunch of cool new photos -- to mark its return to AMC after more than a year. I, for one, missed Cinnabon Gene dearly. As for Jimmy McGill (Bob Odenkirk)? Well, Jimmy is about to stop being Jimmy. One of the new photos even shows him in court in what should be one of his first official appearances as "Saul Goodman."

First, the deets:

Better Call Saul is returning with a big two-night premiere. It starts Sunday, February 23 at 10 p.m. ET/9c following a new episode of The Walking Dead. Better Call Saul Season 5 will continue the next night, Monday, February 24, with an encore presentation of the season premiere at 8 p.m., followed by Episode 2 at 9 p.m. ET. After that, Season 5 will stick with the usual schedule of Mondays at 9 p.m. on AMC.

AMC also shared several new photos to promote Better Call Saul Season 5, including the one at top with Jimmy/Saul finally spending more time with Nacho. I'm worried about Nacho this season. He's not part of Breaking Bad, other than one little reference from Saul. Plus, actor Michael Mando's wrap post made me wonder if This Is It for Nacho.

This next photo shows "Saul" in court. You'll recall that Better Call Saul Season 4 ended with Jimmy dropping his "s'all good, man" line to the shocked Kim Wexler (Rhea Seehorn). She didn't realize he was pulling a con to be able to practice law again. He's not planning to practice under Jimmy McGill anymore, so enter Saul Goodman:

Now here's Kim Wexler outside the door to the New Mexico State Bar. Is she waiting to hear news, or building up the courage to go in and say something about Jimmy? We know Kim isn't part of Breaking Bad either, and Bob Odenkirk said when Kim "goes away" it'll truly mark the end of Jimmy as Jimmy.

This next photo shows Jimmy/Saul and Huell (Lavell Crawford) at some kind of carnival. Huell was a fan favorite on Breaking Bad, along with Bill Burr's Kuby. Huell was part of Better Call Saul Season 4, but Kuby has not been on the spinoff yet, and it sounds like that was due to a personal scheduling conflict with actor Bill Burr.

The next photo shows Mike Ehrmantraut (Jonathan Banks) drinking coffee in an office, which only Mike could make look menacing. Here's hoping he signs another office card this year. Keep reaching for the stars!

The final new photo AMC shared shows Giancarlo Esposito as Gustavo "Gus" Fring -- and talk about menacing. That lighting is so ominous. He's facing someone, and I'm sure things won't go well for whoever is on the receiving end of that stance.

Bob Odenkirk said Better Call Saul Season 5 is the best season they've done so far. Co-showrunner Peter Gould said this season includes the episode that matches what he originally expected the whole show to be about; instead, they took five seasons to get to it. Not that Season 5 will mark the end. It sounds like everyone is expecting one more 10-episode season. AMC has yet to announce Season 6 as the end, but it sounds like that is the general plan.

Better Call Saul Season 5 returns Sunday, February 23 on AMC. Keep up with everything heading to TV in early 2020 with our handy schedule.

Gina Carbone

Gina grew up in Massachusetts and California in her own version of The Parent Trap. She went to three different middle schools, four high schools, and three universities -- including half a year in Perth, Western Australia. She currently lives in a small town in Maine, the kind Stephen King regularly sets terrible things in, so this may be the last you hear from her.
