Vikings’ Ivar is getting ready to learn some very valuable lessons in Season 6, according to actor Alex Høgh Andersen. If you have been paying attention to what is ahead for Ivar, you know that it is going to be eventful, to say the least. Last seen heading into the unknown, Ivar will resurface far from Kattegat in Season 6.

Ivar left his home with a lot of enemies. Just because he is gone does not mean they are forgotten. It is safe to say that Bjorn, Lagertha, and Hvitserk are not Ivar’s favorite people. Asked who Ivar detests the most out of the trio, heading into Season 6, Vikings’ Alex Høgh Andersen, told me:

[Laughs] I don't know, every single one of them. My God, you know him that’s a tough one to answer. He's a mess of trouble that guy. My God, I think he detests every single one of them. I think what he’s on right now, I can say is an internal journey. Where he’s figuring out who he is, and he is figuring out what went wrong in his world, and I think he's learning a lot. A great, great deal because he is in Russia right now and he is observing what would kind of be a mirror of himself in a very ruthless leader.

Interesting! Ivar is about to see what he unleashed from a whole new perspective. I am curious if this can change him in the long term. It is one of the things I think needs to happen! Vikings has set Ivar up with a lot to consider. Cue the trailer for Season 6, and you can get an idea of where Ivar is headed and with whom.

Ivar is far from out of commission. If you are ready for him to learn some much-needed lessons about his behavior, his portrayer hints they are coming. On what he will be up to in the first half of Vikings Season 6, Alex Høgh Andersen continued teasing Ivar’s journey and how it will impact him. Continuing on who Ivar encounters, Andersen said they are:

A very violent leader, who creates fear within these people to control them. And it's hard to understand when you're in it and you're the one doing it. But when you’re standing on the outside looking in, as he is going to be doing quite a bit in Season 6A, he will learn that. He will see that need and understand that, and he will probably understand what he did wrong. I think it’s hurt him quite a bit to lose Bjorn, and to lose his mother, and all that. It hurt him quite a bit. He’ll never, never, ever forget it, and it will be a scar and a wound that will never heal.

Vikings’ Ivar wades into Season 6 with a long list of enemies. Among Ivar’s adversaries are his older brothers Bjorn and Hvitserk, as well as Bjorn’s mother, Lagertha. It is understandable that it would be a three-way tie between the trio. To recap, Bjorn successfully pushed Ivar off the throne of Kattegat last season. Hence, his disdain for him.

Hvitserk ended up siding with Bjorn against Ivar following the latter's tyrannical reign as King of Kattegat in Vikings’ Season 5. So, you can see why there would be tension there. As for the former Queen of Kattegat, Lagertha, Ivar’s hatred for her will likely burn eternal. After Ivar’s mother Aslaug abdicated the throne to Lagertha, she shot Aslaug in the back.

Ivar has sworn vengeance upon Lagertha. Since she is destined to be killed by one of Ragnar’s sons, it seems plausible that Ivar could get his revenge. He is the prime suspect as Vikingsfinal season gets underway. Will seeing the violent reign of this leader in Season 6 make him change his mind? There is one way to know for sure!

Watch Ivar’s journey unfold when Vikings Season 6 premieres Wednesday, December 4, at 9 p.m. ET on History. The two-hour opener is one of this winter’s premieres.
