James Gunn Responded To Those Green Arrow Reboot Rumors

James Gunn has been known in the superhero genre as a big Marvel guy to this point, but his recent stint with DC could change that, especially in light of a rumor that The Suicide Squad director was bringing a new Green Arrow into his upcoming Peacemaker series (starring John Cena) on HBO Max. Now, the director has broken his silence on the rumor.

For those out of the loop, the DC internet fandom has been in a tizzy ever since this rumor hit the web about a potential Green Arrow reboot. Rumor had it that Gunn would give DC its first live-action Green Arrow since Stephen Amell's eight-season run as Oliver Queen on The CW's Arrow, so fans wasted no time in reaching out to him for the truth. Gunn responded to fan on Twitter inquiring if he could confirm the reports of a reboot, and he didn't mince words:

It's nonsense.

Well, no reading between the lines on that! James Gunn has a history of calling out falsehoods when rumors spread on the internet about his work, so I wouldn't be too skeptical about whether or not he's being truthful. While Gunn wasn't explicit about what all about the report was nonsense, I would assume that he can explicitly confirm that a new Green Arrow will not be appearing in his Peacemaker series considering he's writing the episodes.

That's sure to be a downer for any fans hoping to see a Green Arrow that could be tied to DC's film universe, but there is an upside to James Gunn shooting down the rumor. The director revealed that while he knows nothing about the hero appearing in his upcoming series, he is a big fan.

Side note: as I kid I LOVED Green Arrow. When my friends and I played Justice League, that's who I'd be. I stayed up late one night making myself a little hat. And he was my favorite Mego action figure, tied with removable-mask Batman, but even better than Starsky & Hutch.

The fact that James Gunn is a Green Arrow fan, in my mind, could mean great things for the hero's future. Perhaps Warner Bros. is exploring a way to bring a new Green Arrow back to television, but James Gunn was not a part of their plans in making it happen. Perhaps the director professing his love for the character could pave the way for Green Arrow returning to live action. After all, Gunn is a very in-demand director in Hollywood.

We don't currently have a date for HBO Max's Peacemaker series, though we know The Suicide Squad is set to premiere in August of 2021. Continue to stick with CinemaBlend for more on this upcoming series as we learn about it, and for the latest happening in television and movies.
