NBC's One Chicago: When Med, Fire, And P.D. Will Be Back After Latest Delay

The three shows of One Chicago were originally scheduled to return to NBC in the first week of 2021, but Chicago Med, Chicago Fire, and Chicago P.D. are not back with new episodes as expected on January 6. Instead of One Chicago, NBC's primetime lineup on January 6 was filled with continuing news coverage, but fans don't have to be in the dark on when to expect the Med, Fire, and P.D. action to pick up again.

The episodes of Chicago Med, Chicago Fire, and Chicago P.D. that were originally scheduled for January 6 have been confirmed to air next week, on Wednesday, January 13. The news that the One Chicago shows wouldn't return on January 6 as planned was announced shortly before Chicago Med would have started airing at 8 p.m. ET.

The decision to preempt One Chicago with breaking news coverage comes after television was filled with news coverage for much of the day on January 6 due to the storming of the U.S. Capitol and subsequent unrest and uncertainty in Washington D.C. NBC is also not the only major broadcast network to preempt its scheduled programming for news coverage.

Both ABC and CBS chose to air news rather than their originally scheduled programming. ABC primetime would have kicked off with an episode of Who Wants to Be a Millionaire, while CBS primetime would have started with Young Sheldon. Only Fox of the big four networks still aired new content, starting at 8 p.m. ET with a new episode of The Masked Dancer.

As for NBC and One Chicago, the episodes that would have marked the 2021 returns of the three hit shows have been highly anticipated, but the wait shouldn't be too much longer, and fans have already made it through the longer-than-usual break before Med, Fire, and P.D. returned in the fall and shorter-than-usual run of episodes before going on a winter break. The wait will just be a little bit longer, and news was the priority on January 6.

The showrunners for the three One Chicago shows have also already shared some of what to expect, so fans aren't in the dark on what they have to look forward to. On top of Chicago Med appointing Ethan as the new ED chief (and delivering some April drama), showrunners Andrew Schneider and Diane Frolov previewed some "significant" developments for Natalie and Crockett.

Chicago Fire's Stella and Severide are in for some significant changes as well, according to Fire boss Derek Haas, but not necessarily in a good way due to some new obstacles. Plus, Brett and Casey are facing the complications of the grand Dawsey romance even years after Dawson's departure as leading lady.

Over for Chicago P.D., showrunner Rick Eid broke down how Upton is facing a major decision that will be a "catalyst" when it comes to her relationship with Halstead. And, if that's not enough, we have a sneak peek at the 2021 premiere of Chicago P.D. Season 8 to reveal what's on the way for Burgess. Take a look:

Stay tuned to CinemaBlend for the latest in One Chicago news as new episodes continue to approach on NBC. For some additional viewing options in the coming weeks, be sure to take a look at our 2021 winter and spring premiere schedule.
