How Many People Watched Robert Downey Jr’s Sweet Tooth? A Lot, But It’s Not Beating Bridgerton (Yet)

Being part of a club as elite as Netflix’s most-watched originals is rare, especially since it only includes the Top 10 on the streamer. However, less than two months after its release, Robert Downey Jr.’s Sweet Tooth earned a spot, but it’s not enough to beat most-watched original Bridgerton, at least just yet.

Netflix has released data for some of its new originals, like RDJ’s Sweet Tooth. Deadline reports the DC Comics series was watched by a total of 60 million households since its launch on June 4, making it #6 for most-watched English-language original. While this is certainly impressive, Bridgerton still holds the #1 spot at 82 million, which shouldn’t come as a surprise considering the Emmy nominations and the big renewal Netflix gave the series earlier this year. Sweet Tooth's 60 million does put it ahead of Emily in Paris, and comes up just shy behind The Queen’s Gambit at 62 million.

Bridgerton dropped on Netflix early Christmas morning last year and became the streamer’s fifth biggest launch in its history just ten days after its premiere. The series had a total of 82 million households just in the first four weeks and while Netflix did project a high number of homes would tune in, the final number was 19 million households higher than expected. After Netflix renewed the drama for a second season, the streamer then renewed it for two additional seasons, with a note from none other than Bridgerton’s own Gossip Girl, Lady Whistledown herself, to share the news.

Even though Sweet Tooth beat Emily in Paris, it still wasn’t enough to beat The Queen’s Gambit, a feat only Bridgerton has done so far. The limited series was once the most-watched series on Netflix, before Lady Whistledown came to town. However, it is still the most-watched limited series and while it was rumored that the series would be getting a second season, for now it’s staying limited with just one season.

Sweet Tooth was gaining eyes before its premiere, especially with Robert Downey Jr. and Susan Downey attached to the series. Adapted from the DC/Vertigo comic of the same name, much of Sweet Tooth was different from the source material. And when the first trailer dropped, it was nothing short of looking epic and chaotic. The series stars Nonso Anozie, Christian Convery, Adeel Akhtar, Stefania LaVie Owen and Dania Ramirez.

For now, it looks like Bridgerton is holding on to its position, but it makes you wonder if there will be a show that will top it? It’s definitely possible, though will it even be another show that will beat it? Since Bridgerton is coming out with a second season, it’s also possible that the second season will beat the first season. For now, Bridgerton is just going to bask in its own glory.
