Just a short time after Adele had a not-so-great performance at the Grammys, the popular singer took to social media to explain what had happened. Apparently, a microphone that fell on the piano strings threw her whole performance off. The experience was extremely emotional for Adele, and she recently revealed on Ellen that she sobbed her way through the day after the 58th Annual Grammy Awards. Here’s what she had to say:
I was embarrassed. I woke up the next morning to people being like, ‘We still love you, don’t worry.’ I didn’t ask you if you still loved me, but thanks. I was so embarrassed. I cried pretty much all day yesterday.
Adele is one of the most emotive singers in the business, so her blatant and honest reaction really isn’t a surprise. In fact, I appreciate that she knows the performance wasn’t up to snuff and went ahead and had a down day to get over the whole ordeal. She’s also pretty spunky, telling Ellen that she probably would have cried if it had been a great performance, too, just for the opposite reasons.
Obviously, taking a little time to be emotional was just the ticket for Adele, who was in pretty fine form during her Ellen appearance, kidding around about always being pitchy on the flats and the sharps anyway. She also joked around about Justin Bieber whilst explaining what the heck happened while she was trying to sing “All I Ask.”
Then during the changeover, the microphones fell onto the piano strings—that’s what the guitar noise was. Some people thought it was Bieber rehearsing but it wasn’t him. We’re on great terms. And then it just kinda put the whole thing off, really.
If you haven’t caught the Adele performance, yet, it’s been all over the internet since the big Grammy’s performance. And while Adele might joke about being “pitchy,” we’ve never seen her perform in a way that was so noticeably off-putting. Obviously, this is an example of how one small thing can affect an entire performance. Give it a watch if you haven’t already.
One bad night at the Grammys is unlikely to make or break Adele’s career, and we’re pleased to see she’s gotten over her cry and moved on to cracking jokes about being pitchy and people blaming the problems on Justin Bieber.
