Fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe have spent years wishing and waiting that Frank Castle a.k.a. The Punisher would eventually get added to the long list of vigilantes stopping evil in its tracks. Now it's finally happening, and while previous teasers for Daredevil Season 2 have showed the character in action, played by The Walking Dead's Jon Bernthal, now the latest trailer has delivered our best look yet. Check it out!
Following the battle against Wilson Fisk in Season 1, Daredevil has a brand new antagonist to face off against in the second season of the hit Netflix show, and it looks like it's going to be one hell of a challenge. The Punisher is ready to bring his own very special brand to the streets of Hell's Kitchen, and it looks like there's going to be some serious bloodshed involved.
As this trailer so elegantly points out, we can expect a really fascinating relationship between Charlie Cox’s Matt Murdock a.k.a. Daredevil and Jon Bernthal’s The Punisher in Daredevil Season 2. Rage filled as he is, and prone to beat the tar out of local gangsters, The Man Without Fear refuses to cross the line and put his enemies in the dirt… and this is something that The Punisher just doesn’t understand. While there certainly must be some respect on his part for the vigilante justice being doled out by the blind lawyer, he also views all the work as nothing but half measures. Castle is a strict believer in capital punishment, and is never happier than when he’s taking out scum like those who wound up killing his entire family.
This trailer is obviously more about setting tone than anything, but it certainly does give us a lot to chew on visually. The first season of Daredevil was certainly an aesthetic feast for fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe – especially in that it gave us something unlike anything we’ve ever seen – and it looks like we can expect the same from Season 2. There are some gorgeous and interesting shots in this spot (which is apparently just supposed to be Part 1 of a preview), and I think my favorite is the clip of Matt pleading with Punisher, sporting what looks like a severely damaged mask:
How did the mask split? How did Daredevil manage to put it back together? These are both questions to which we’re excited to get the answers.
It feels like it’s been forever since Daredevil Season 1 launched on Netflix, but our wait for more will soon be over, as 2016 continues to plow straight ahead. The entire second season will be available to stream starting on March 18th, and be sure to stay tuned for more updates and action as they become available!
