How Sherlock Is Affecting Benedict Cumberbatch's Wedding

In November, Benedict Cumberbatch announced his engagement to actress Sophie Hunter, remarkably in a newspaper announcement. But recently the film and TV actor revealed that there is one role that has definitely gotten in the way of wedding planning: Sherlock Holmes.

Recently, when asked about his wedding plans, Cumberbatch revealed that he is 100% invested in his Sherlock gig right now.

"One thing at a time. I'm playing Sherlock now — just about to start — so my main focus is going to be on that."

It’s also awards season, and Cumberbatch has been nominated for a Golden Globe in the Best Actor in a Motion Picture, Drama category for his part in the WWII drama The Imitation Game. So, between being busy with a new season of Sherlock and all of the awards shows he will ostensibly be attending over the next several months, it’s not really a surprise that he told Pop Sugar his acting career will be taking precedence—at least for the foreseeable future.

We’ve known for a while that Season 4 of Sherlock is happening and is set to film three brand new episodes during 2015. We also know that the new episodes will take Sherlock Holmes and his partner in crime-solving John Watson into “deeper and darker water.” Sherlock is also planning a special set to air sometime during 2015. That episode will pop up prior to the BBC's airing of Season 4.

About a month ago, we got a first look at the special episode, which will feature Martin Freeman’s Watson sporting an epic mustache along with Benedict Cumberbatch’s curls hidden under a bowler hat. Just look at the epic fashion choices, courtesy of the BBC.

Benedict Cumberbatch has been a sought out actor for quite some time, and has taken leading man roles in films in recent years. He’s popular enough in the movie realm that his dancing card is pretty full, and finding the time to shoot the BBC drama has become a challenge. If he has trouble making room for Sherlock, it doesn’t surprise me that he’s having the same problems with wedding planning. But hopefully, once Sherlock has filmed and the last awards have been handed out, he’ll find the time to sign off on color schemes and caterers. That is, if Doctor Strange doesn’t come up, first.
