Watch Willem Dafoe Channel His Inner Marilyn Monroe In Super Bowl Snickers Commercial

Over the years, Snickers has been responsible for producing some of the funniest commercials on TV, from “I’m Batman” to Betty White and Abe Vigoda playing football. They’ve done it yet again with the company’s newest Super Bowl ad, in which Willem Dafoe gets his Marilyn Monroe on, and it’s one that rivals the fabulous promo from last year’s game that featured Danny Trejo as Marcia Brady. There is so much there that I never thought I’d see, and I’m not just talking about Willem Dafoe’s upper thigh area when his dress flies up. Okay, I guess I’m mainly talking about Dafoe’s thighs. Hunger for nougat makes me fib.

The commercial, which will air at some point during Super Bowl 50, is a callback to one of Hollywood’s most iconic visuals, with Marilyn Monroe standing above a New York City sewer grate and getting her skirt blown up by a passing subway train as part of a publicity stunt for Billy Wilder’s The Seven Year Itch, the movie she was filming at the time. It’s a moment that remains tied to anyone’s memory when Monroe’s name comes up, which ain’t too shabby an image to have in one’s head.

On the other hand, it’s nowhere near as pleasant to now have this Snickers commercial come to mind anytime I think about Dafoe or Monroe. Or Snickers. Or subways. Or clothing. Not that Dafoe doesn’t look good for his age or anything, and he’s obviously comfortable enough with his body to do the commercial. But my brain is now scarred!

Snickers teased this commercial recently by using another famous moment from Marilyn Monroe’s short life, though it wasn’t quite clear that Willem Dafoe was the other person involved. I mean, he was in tons of shit in 2015, including John Wick and The Grand Budapest Hotel, so it probably should have been obvious that he would portray Monroe for a candy bar commercial.

This was just one of several Super Bowl commercials debuting online ahead of their high-dollar spots as part of the telecast. We’ve already seen Seth Rogen and Amy Schumer campaigning for Bud Light, Ryan Reynolds cloning himself and the most nightmarish Mountain Dew commercial ever. And there are bound to be more weird and hilarious surprises popping up on the night.

Super Bowl 50 is set to air on CBS on Sunday, February 7. Be sure to have all of your snacks and drinks made before it starts, and maybe stick a toilet in the corner of the living room. Also, invite me over.
