Alright, Fox. You win. We’re officially on board with Timur Bekmambetov’s Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter. We’re buying into the genre mashup of American history and gothic horror. We loved the first poster, and we flipped for the first photos. This new poster (via impawards.com) isn’t quite as inspired, but like I said, we’re in:

Now how’s about you showing us a trailer? Really, I want to get a sense of the tone Bekmambetov’s going for with his adaptation of Seth Grahame-Smith bestselling novel. We’ve seen the Wanted director do straight-up horror with his vampire series Night Watch and its follow up, Day Watch. But the premise behind Lincoln suggests the possibility of a jokier tone … a big-budget spin on Joss Whedon’s Buffy the Vampire Slayer with our nation’s 16th president swapped in for Sarah Michelle Gellar’s teen-queen slayer.

As I mentioned in an earlier post, I have to believe we’ll be seeing a trailer on Vampire Hunter soon, as the film is racing ahead to a June 22 release date. Until then, we’re guessing. And the strange photoshoppiness of the above image isn’t helping ease of mild concerns that this will be too “spoofy” to be taken seriously. Because I think there’s potential here for this to be the guilty-pleasure carnival ride that Summer 2012 is looking for, but we really won’t know for sure until we get closer to release date – and see that elusive trailer.
