Scream 4 Still Moving Forward
Despite the endless rumors over the last few months, it never really seemed like Scream 4 was a movie that would actually happen. Haven't we moved so far beyond that kind of cheeky send-up that horror fans wouldn't even recognize it any more?
But apparently they're still making progress on getting this together, and Bloody Disgusting has it from a reliable (but anonymous) source that lots of the original main players would return for it. Kevin Williamson, who wrote the first two films, is apparently working on a draft that may or may not wind up as the final screenplay, and Wes Craven is likely to return, though maybe not as director. Even Neve Campbell, Courtney Cox and David Arquette are in negotiations to make cameos. The movie, of course, will focus on a "younger generation," given that the original main characters are no longer young or nubile enough to be the leads in a horror movie.
I still think nothing can really top the original Scream, particularly the endless sequels, and don't see a need for this one except as a nostalgia trip. But hey, that's why no one pays me the big bucks to decide what a studio should do. At least a potential Scream 4 seems willing to honor the movies that came before it, which is more than you can say for most of the horror sequels that pop up these days.
