Suicide Squad Recut With The Friends Theme Song Is Surprisingly Appropriate

Despite the fact that it centers upon a group of super villains, this summer’s Suicide Squad looks like an absolutely rip-roaring good time. Unlike the dreary Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, it’s full of colorful, energetic characters who seem to coalesce nicely into a cohesive unit. If that formula sounds familiar, that’s because one could also use it to describe the classic NBC sitcom Friends. Some astute folks on the Internet seem to have picked up on this, and decided to recut Suicide Squad with the Friends theme. Check it out below.

Coming to us courtesy of Movie Trailer Trash (great name by the way) the Suicide Squad video takes already released footage from the highly anticipated a Warner Bros. movie and recuts it to the beat of the iconic Friends theme song. Throughout the course of then video we see the members of the titular squad getting into hilarious situations (completely devoid of context) while laughably jovial music plays in the background. It’s all pure comedy gold, but I have to say that the way the video cuts the songs clapping sound effects with Jared Leto’s Joker slapping Ike Barinholtz’ character (at least we think that's who it is) in the face has to represent the funniest aspect of the entire thing.

In all honesty, part of the reason we adore the above video so much is the fact that it tonally works well with Suicide Squad. Much of the film’s marketing campaign has already revolved around setting the dark, visceral action sequences to fun, vibrant music. Playing the Friends theme over the action invokes ideas that these DC characters are mischievous, bickering friends – which isn’t terrible far off from the tone of the movie. I could be totally off base with this one, but I feel like Will Smith’s Deadshot will be the Chandler Bing of the group; only time will tell.

Of course, this isn’t the first time someone has set a big budget blockbuster to the catchy theme of Friends. Just last year someone did the exact same thing with The Avengers, and the resulting video proved just as hilarious. There’s just something infectious about the iconic sitcom theme song that works so well with comic book characters.

If you have not yet watched the video at the top of this article, seriously do yourself a favor and watch it. Not only is it worth a few laughs, but it also has us even more excited for the upcoming Suicide Squad movie – something we didn’t even think was possible. Let us know what you think of the video in the comments below, and make sure to catch Suicide Squad when it blasts its way into theaters on August 5.
