Whole Foods Completes Global Takeover By Starting Film Series![]()
Yeah, yeah, they're a big corporate monster and all that, but over the last decade or so Whole Foods has made a huge amount of progress in getting Americans to reconsider the kinds and amount of foods they eat. They haven't been alone, of course-- books like Michael Pollan's The Omnivore's Dilemma and movies like Fast Food Nation and Food, Inc. have also done their part to convince Americans that, hey, maybe eating actual food once in a while wouldn't be such a bad thing.
Always with their eye on the next thing, Whole Foods has decided to actually team up with some of those films to keep getting the message-- and yes, a little bit of advertising-- across. Variety reports that Whole Foods is kicking off a nationwide film series called "Let's Retake Our Plates," with screenings scheduled this month in libraries, movie theaters and college campuses in over 150 cities. Food Inc. and Fast Food Nation are on the bill, along with 1970s sci-fi classics Soylent Green and Silent Running and recent documentaries No Impact Man, Food Fight and King Corn. Full scheduling info is available here. Sure, a lot of these titles are available on Netflix (even Watch Instantly), but what better way than to educate yourself about food than in a crowd full of other foodies? You can all boo the bogus FDA regulations about corn together. |
