Jamie Foxx Talks About Electro In The Amazing Spider-Man Sequel
One of the most challenging aspects of writing a superhero sequel has to be finding a way to introduce the new central villain. The previous movie has a few pre-established storylines that have to be adhered to, and it's the writer's responsibility to find a way for the new foe to fit into the established world organically. This is certainly something that is going to come up in the sequel to The Amazing Spider-Man. It's been announced that Jamie Foxx will play well-known foe Electro in the movie, but how will he be a part of where the franchise goes from the end of the first one?
Entertainment Tonight recently had the opportunity to sit down with Foxx - presumably in advance of the forthcoming Django Unchained - and took the chance to ask the Academy Award-winning actor about the approach the new comic book movie will take with his character. "Electro is a great character, "Foxx said. "I met with the director, Mark Webb, I met with Andrew Garfield, and we talked. ... I think Electro will be an exciting character to play because he's a ... genius electrician-type person, and he gets the short end of the stick from the whole world, and the next thing you know he turns it on."
Obviously it's not a lot to go on, and there are still a lot of questions to be asked. Does he have a connection to Oscorp? Was that some version of him in the prison cell at the end of The Amazing Spider-Man? We'll just have to keep waiting for answers.
Webb made a big announcement earlier today when he revealed that Chronicle's Dane Dehaan will be playing Harry Osborn in the sequel. It was also previously revealed that Shailene Woodley will play Mary Jane Watson in the next film, which will be released May 2, 2014.
