Thor And His Roommate May Be Returning To The MCU Soon

Thor Ragnarok Darryl

The Thor franchise has consistently struggled to truly discover its voice over the course of the last few years, but it seems to have found it in the most unlikely place: the mockumentary genre. Taika Waititi's Team Thor short hit the web last summer and took the world by storm with its unique depiction of Chris Hemsworth's action hero, and his lively dynamic with his human roommate Darryl Jacobson. Fans have clamored for a follow-up to Team Thor for months, and it now seems that their prayers may soon be answered. In the face of remarkable fan enthusiasm, it looks like Thor and Darryl will soon return as part of the special features for the upcoming Doctor Strange Blu-ray release.

A recent thread on Blu-ray Forum suggests that the upcoming home release for Doctor Strange will include a follow-up to the Team Thor mockumentary that debuted last year -- aptly titled, Team Thor: Part 2. No concrete details have been confirmed just yet, but if this is true then we expect to see Darryl Jacobson return alongside his powerful roommate. His passive-aggressive dynamic with Chris Hemsworth's Thor has proven to be one of the funniest aspects of the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe, so it makes perfect sense to capitalize on that again.

Despite the fact that we still have quite a bit of time until Thor: Ragnarok hits theaters, Team Thor has already instilled quite a bit of confidence in Taika Waititi's ability to handle the character in ways that we have rarely seen on the silver screen. Using a documentary style similar to his work on the cult classic movie What We Do In The Shadows, Waititi delivered an utterly deadpan (and endlessly hilarious) depiction of the Asgardian warrior that was instantly endearing. He has managed to tap into Chris Hemsworth's proven comedic chops in ways that the Thor franchise has not managed to do over the course of the last two movies, and our hopes remain high that Team Thor: Part 2 and Thor: Ragnarok will continue that strong director-actor dynamic.

For those of you who missed the initial installment of Team Thor, check out the mockumentary below and prepare to see a version of the Asgardian warrior that you have seldom seen before:

CinemaBlend will bring you any and all relevant details related to Thor and Darryl's respective futures in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as more information is made available to us. The Doctor Strange Blu-ray home release will hit shelves on February 28, and Thor: Ragnarok will smash its way into theaters later this year on November 3.
