Star Wars: The Last Jedi Gave General Leia A Powerful Poster

Today has been a particularly exciting ones for the generations of Star Wars fans. Disney's annual D23 event occurred this weekend, with the House of Mouse premiering trailers and footage from its various properties, including the Marvel Cinematic Universe and Star Wars. And in addition to the behind the scenes video from Star Wars: The Last Jedi, a new poster was just released which is all about Carrie Fisher's General Leia. Check it out below.

Leia in the Last Jedi Poster

Did anyone else just get goosebumps? This poster is a stunning tribute to the late Carrie Fisher, and seems to point out how important Leia's legacy is to the overall Star Wars franchise. The princess turned General is the heart and mind at the center of the battle against the Dark Side, and we'll see how she continues the good fight when The Last Jedi hits theaters this winter.

The new Last Jedi poster is truly powerful, especially with its creative use of color and Carrie Fisher's likeness. While the late actress/writer's face is cut out of the poster, all it takes is a quick glance to recognize General Leia. And using a red tint for Fisher's outfit is powerful, if not just a bit morbid. Carrie Fisher's unexpected passing (followed by Debbie Reynolds) rocked the world of Hollywood and the Star Wars community, and it's something that many are still not quite over. As the cast of Star Wars: The Last Jedi begins doing the rounds of press for the film, Fisher's absence will no doubt be doubly felt, especially as the film is almost exactly one year after her death.

The generations of Star Wars fans are eager to see any footage or stills of Carrie Fisher in The Last Jedi, and the poster wets the appetite without actually delivering what the fandom so craves. This is smart marketing, as it makes the anticipation for a new trailer even more painful. The following months will no doubt be chock full of Last Jedi news and updates, and I'm eager to see if any of the other leading characters will be awarded a poster like Leia's.

While Disney didn't provide any footage from Star Wars: The Last Jedi at D23, they did gift us a behind the scenes video, featuring the characters and settings from the Rian Johnson's sequel. It was chock full of exciting moments and vague reveals, although the final moments of the video are the ones that will likely give you chills. Because the late Carrie Fisher got the final line, where she described how Star Wars, and The Last Jedi, is all about family. And her Star Wars family (as well as her daughter Billie Lourd) is no doubt missing her every day.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi will arrive in theaters on December 16th. In the meantime, check out our 2017 release list to plan your next trip to the movies.
