Lindsay Lohan Could Wind Up In Jail For Lying To Police About Car Accident

The Santa Monica City Attorney has reportedly decided to file criminal charges against Lindsay Lohan for lying to police. Under normal circumstances, the misdemeanor would be nothing more than a slap on the wrist, but in the actress’ case, it could be interpreted as a probation violation, which would land the Mean Girls star behind bars.

The lying to police charge stretches all the way back to a car accident in June. Lohan’s rented black Porsche crashed into the back of an eighteen wheeler, and while numerous witnesses supposedly told police Lindsay was driving, the actress herself pointed the finger at her assistant. Obviously, investigators in Santa Monica weren’t and aren’t pleased about getting conflicting stories, and now, they’ve decided not to let the matter slide.

In the short-term, this charge really isn’t very important. On its own, it likely won’t net Lindsay anything more than a minor fine or a few hours or probation. The real issue of importance is whether the judge in Lohan’s jewelry theft case decides to play hardball. Six months ago, she likely would have looked at the totality of the star’s recent resume (new jobs, few headlines, completed community service) and decided this was a minor speed bump, but with the sheer number of recent allegations lobbed in her direction, it seems like a real possibility Lohan could spend at least a few weeks, if not longer, in jail.
