A Major Harry Potter Actor Just Joined The Flash In A Regular Role

Tom Felton

While Arrow has been dropping casting news left and right for its fifth season, The Flash has been much more secretive about who they're bringing aboard for Season 3. That's not surprising given the subject matter for the first half of the season, but now we can finally add at least one new face to the show's lineup. It's been announced that Harry Potter star Tom Felton, better known in the wizarding world as Draco Malfoy, has joined The Flash as a series regular.

Felton will play Julian Dorn, a fellow CSI employee at the Central City Police Department who suspects there's more to Barry Allen besides his "good guy reputation." Julian was reported as a "major recurring character" joining The Flash Season 3 a few weeks ago, but he wasn't named at the time. TV Line didn't provide any other information about Felton's role, but because he's a member of the main cast, viewers will be seeing a lot of him as the season progresses. So far Julian Dorn is the only new character who's been revealed for Season 3, though the existing main cast, as well as recurring character Jesse Quick, are all expected to return.

While Tom Felton's casting will undoubtedly please Harry Potter aficionados, what this report doesn't make clear is whether we'll see Julian Dorn in the main Flash timeline or an altered one. Fans will remember that at the end of the Season 2 finale, Barry Allen changed history when he went back in time and saved his mother from Reverse-Flash, and it's been confirmed that The Flash Season 3 will adapt the Flashpoint storyline in its own special way. Assuming Felton is participating for the entire season, does that mean Julian's personality will change when things revert back to normal, or will he still be suspicious even afterwards. It's also worth noting that Julian Dorn isn't an established DC Comics character, meaning that The Flash has simply added an new player to the lineup or he's secretly meant to be someone originally from the printed page. Whether he's simply a well-meaning person or eventually becomes a bad guy, expect him to stir up some drama.

As previously mentioned, Tom Felton is best known for playing Draco Malfoy in the eight Harry Potter movies. For a decade, he served as Harry's main antagonist at Hogwarts, stirring up trouble with his fellow Slytherin cohorts and later with Voldemort, though he and his family were later reluctant to follow the Dark Lord. Outside the Harry Potter world, Felton's credits include Rise of the Planet of the Apes, The Apparition, Risen and Murder of the First. Still, Harry Potter is his main claim to fame, and it will be funny if Cisco or one of the Flash other characters drops a reference about the magical franchise in his presence.

The Flash Season 3 will premiere Tuesday, October 4 at 8 p.m. EST on The CW.
