Dexter Season 8 Video Focuses On Deb's Drastic Shift From Cop To...

Between the clips and teasers, a lot of what we've seen from the upcoming eighth and final season of Dexter has hinted (to put it mildly) that Deb is on a downward spiral emotionally. And can we blame her after what happened at the end of last season? Now's where you want to stop reading if you still haven't gotten caught up with Dexter through Season 7.

The latest Dexter offering from Showtime offers us a look at the evolution of Deb, from cop to killer. Once upon a time, Deb was just a vice cop struggling to climb the ranks within Miami Metro, which she finally did, going on to make detective and eventually run the Homicide department. And then she realized she was in love with her brother, discovered that he was a serial killer, agreed not only to keep his secret, but occasionally break the law to cover up his crimes, and eventually cross the line entirely by becoming a killer. Not only did she kill someone in cold blood, but she killed a cop - one of her own. Given the choice between taking her brother down and killing LaGuerta, Deb chose to protect her brother and kill her boss. She sure has come a long way, but the direction of that evolution might be amiss here.

The tease for the eighth season included at the end further indicates that the fallout from Deb's choice to kill LaGuerta will be severe. Clearly it's taking its toll on her personal life and her relationship with Dexter. Is there any chance Dexter can patch things up with her?

Dexter returns Sunday, June 30 at 9:00 p.m. ET on Showtime.
