Go Underground With Tunnel Rats

We’ve seen a number of films that depict the brutality on the battlefield of the Vietnam War, but now it’s time to a get a look at what happened under the jungle. Find out how the Viet Cong were able to stealthily take down American troops without being seen when Uwe Boll’s Tunnel Rats hits DVD on June 30th.

While American troops trod through the Cu Chi District of Vietnam, Viet Cong snipers attacked with ease. When the American forces discover the tunnel system that allows the opposition to blend into the terrain and attack at will, a special combat team is assembled and sent underground. These soldiers only carried, handguns, flashlights and knives so and forced to resort to an immense amount of hand-to-hand combat. Their mission may have been a top priority, but so was surviving.

Finally, a unique take on the Vietnam War. I loved films like Forrest Gump and Apocalypse Now, but I’m curious to see a fresh take on this event. It’s pretty fascinating that the Viet Cong were able to outwit the far superior US Army using this tactic. It’s one thing to take out your enemy using long-range weapons, but it’s completely different to look someone in the eye before you take them down. The physical and emotion stress this squad suffered must have been extreme.

The special feature list isn’t nearly as exhilarating as the storyline. Both the rated and unrated versions of the film come with O-Card packaging, deleted scenes, behind the scenes material and an interview with Boll. Regardless, $26.99 is worth appeasing my curiosity.
