Madness? This Is The DVD Blend!

Each week DVDs come out. Some of them are worth your time and money and some aren't. Some of them are movies I've seen, and some of them aren’t. Regardless, I give you my opinion on the big releases of the week. If the releases sound like something you want to buy, just click the link to go to Amazon.com and you’ll support Cinema Blend with a few pennies. Take it or leave it, here's the DVD Blend.

Cinema Blend Pick of the Week:

300

Hard to believe we started the month off with no pick of the week (just a turkey) and ended with an incredible challenge of three solid contenders for the week. In the end, however, the prize goes to 300, Zach Snyder’s comic book adaptation that put the teeth back in Spartan warriors. Visually stunning and brutal, the movie depicts the Battle of Thermopylae as 300 Spartans held the line against an astounding army. It’s not just the story that wins this release the pick of the week prize. It’s also the extras. Don’t even bother touching that single-disc edition if you want to prove yourself a real warrior. Truth be told, you should be heading for the HD DVD version with the picture in picture comparison of the original footage against the final picture. If you’re not that bold, however, at least pick up the two disc edition with a wealth of bonus materials. This is one DVD release you don’t want to miss out on.

Worth mentioning:
Row 1 - Cell 0 Hot Fuzz - The filmmakers and stars of Shaun of the Dead pair up to take on the action movie genre. The result: blood and ice cream (in part two of their so titled trilogy). Watch what happens when a top cop and a lazy slob get together and recreate what happens in all the other movies with those same archetypes.Row 1 - Cell 2 Babylon 5: The Lost Tales - If you’re a fan of the show, this DVD release is a must have. Featuring two episodes that follow Lochley and Sheridan, this direct to DVD release recreates the look and feel of the series. The result is a chance to revisit old friends ten years later and remember why this show was so good.
