From Software Teases A Future For The Armored Core Series

From Software has been around for a long time. The company managed to get its feet grounded in the gaming industry with its first big outing in the form of the PlayStation exclusive, Armored Core. The third-person mech shooter hasn't been seen in recent times, but that could all change after From Software teased a future for the Armored Core series.

A tweet was posted by the official Twitter account for From Software's marketing department manager. In the post, Yasunori Ogura explains that From Software was thankful for everyone's support for the 20th-anniversary music special for Armored Core. However, the tweet doesn't end there. Game Informer translated the tweet, and it reads that while the developers don't have anything to announce right now when it comes to revealing anything about the series but From doesn't have any plans on ending the series anytime soon.

Fans of the studio are asked to wait patiently a little while longer for details to emerge, so could we see something pop up as soon as The Game Awards or as far off as E3 next summer. We really have no idea when the studio will make an announcement for the game, but it does appear that, at some point, they will.

The original came out way back in 1997, and it really set the bar high for what gamers expected out of giant mech games. Most titles before that were all 2D-oriented Gundam or Macross games, and From Software evolved the genre as the first really noteworthy 3D mech game for home consoles. Over on PC, there were games like Earthsiege and Mechwarrior, but back then home consoles and PC were a world apart when it came to maintenance, pricing, and troubleshooting.

Over the years, From Software released a series of games for the PlayStation, PlayStation 2, PSP, PS Vita, and even mobile devices. Eventually, the series evolved and made its way onto the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 with three titles spanning 2008 through 2013. The last outing was Armored Core: Verdict Day from way back in 2013, just ahead of the launch of the Xbox One and PS4.

We haven't received a new game in the series for this generation of home consoles due to From Software focusing on the Dark Souls series, which has become the bread and butter for the studio in recent years. The studio also gained lots of widespread acclaim and sales for the PS4 exclusive, Bloodborne.

But the studio head had confirmed that Dark Souls is done for now after Dark Souls 3 wrapped up back in 2016. If the company has been focusing on a new Armored Core since that time, then a new game could reasonably be due for release either in late fall of 2018 or the following year. If the publisher really wants From Software to take its time, then a 2019 release would be the more ideal release window.

For now, fans will just have to keep hoping and showing support for the studio in hopes of a new game being announced... and hopefully it's released in both the East and the West for Xbox and PlayStation home consoles.
