One of the big selling points of most premium services these days is that there are free benefits thrown in to help improve the appeal of the subscription service. In the case of Amazon's Twitch Prime there are a bunch of free games being given away.

Over on the official Twitch blog, there's a post about various free indie games and RPGs being given away for Twitch Prime subscribers. Between March 15th and March 31st, Twitch Prime subscribers will be able to download indie titles like Superhot and Oxenfree, along with Shadow tactics: Blades of the Shogun and Tales From Candlekeep: Tomb of Annihilation.

If you have an Amazon Prime connection you can enable your Twitch Prime account, log into your Twitch account through the Twitch.tv website, and then click on the crown icon on the top of the page. You'll be able to scroll through each game and claim the free offers between the allotted time of March 15th and March 30th.

The free games will be handed out each month as part of the Twitch Prime membership, so next month around April 15th there will be another slew of free games made available for subscribers.

According to the blog the Twitch team is "digging" deep into the "archives" to bring gamers free titles for the subscribers. The two games headlining the line-up, Superhot and Oxenfree, are both top-selling games with a lot of critical acclaim.

Superhot, in particular, is a complete reinvention of the first-person shooter. The hook for the game is that time only moves when the player moves, so every movement has to be calculated otherwise you'll die quick. Team Superhot also made a VR version of Superhot, which was pretty neat, allowing players to utilize the motion controls instead of relying on the gamepad or keyboard and mouse.

Oxenfree is the complete opposite of Superhot, insofar that it's hand-animated adventure game themed around a reality-altering dimensional paradox that opens up a rift on a small island, leading a group of teenagers through a terrifying and dangerous journey through time and space. One of the interesting parts of the game is that you can have the characters talk over each other, creating a fairly organic sense of interaction.

The other games are no pushover. Mr. Shifty made waves on PC and Nintendo Switch for its melee-oriented gameplay, and Shadow Tactics is an interesting stealth-oriented action-strategy game that takes the concept of Commandos but applies it to the Feudal era of Japan.

The Tales from Candlekeep: Tomb of Annihilation is a storyboard role-playing game based on the Wizards of the Coast's Dungeons & Dragons series. It offers turn-based combat with classic character building.

This initiative by Twitch is equivalent to the Xbox Games with Gold program that offers gamers free games each month. Sony also does the same with the PlayStation Plus offerings each month. The Twitch Prime subscription is basically Amazon's way of stepping into the competitive subscription arena with free games each month.
