The time has come and the major update featuring the first time Obi-Wan Kenobi will be playable in DICE's Star Wars: Battlefront II is now upon us. If you're gaming on the Xbox One, PS4, or PC, you can log in and start enjoying the new Geonosis content once the update is done installing.
Over on the official EA website, the details of the update were rolled out for gamers looking to dive back into the interactive Star Wars universe. This includes the ability to play as Obi-Wan Kenobi and dress him up in various skins that are available to unlock in the game, this is despite the fact that Electronic Arts originally stated that they wouldn't have additional skins in the game or make them microtransactions because a pink Darth Vader would have broken canon.
Nevertheless, Obi-Wan Kenobi gets two different outfits, including as a Jedi Master and as General Kenobi when he was leading the 212th Attack Battalion of clone troopers. The update also includes an all new General Grievous skin that gives him a shattered armor appearance.
The new skins and characters also join the all new map, the Battle of Geonosis, where players will fight to bring down the Separatist's droid transports. On the Clone side players will have to lead the charge across the battlefield while guarding their AT-TE walkers on the surface. On the Separatists Droid side, you'll need to prevent the AT-TEs from getting close enough to destroy the Hardcell transports.
And speaking of the AT-TE... it's one of the new vehicles added to Star Wars: Battlefront II. It was featured in the original Battlefront II that Pandemic made way back in 2005, but it took them a while to reappear in DICE's game. The six-legged tanks are also joined by two additional vehicles, the personal vehicle the STAP, and the BARC speeder. You'll be able to use all three vehicles on the Geonosis map.
In a way, DICE has almost finally brought this new iteration of the game up to the content standards set by Pandemic's version of the game. The original 2005 version launched with the Battle of Geonosis as one of the key maps in the campaign mode that afforded up to four players to play through in split-screen mode. A lot of those old features didn't make the initial cut of DICE's 2015 outing of the game, but the developer has been working hard to (re)implement them into the 2017 outing of Battlefront II.
With Obi-Wan Kenobi now part of the roster and additional skins being made available for General Grievous, gamers may have some added reasons to hop back into the multiplayer shooter.
Things were initially hostile in the Battlefront camp with the whole loot box drama that took place last year, but over time things have cooled off and now the game is in a much better place.
DICE has been updating the content at regular intervals, adding new maps, characters, vehicles, and events to keep gamers coming back for more.
