Hi-Rez Studios has revealed another playable character for their multiplayer online battle arena game Smite. Ares, the Greek god of war, will be joining the divine smackdown with a host of interesting abilities.
Ares is described as a melee tank. He's able to use magic to augment his defensive ability and that of his teammates. He can also dish out plenty of damage with his sword. He can also shoot fire from his shield to incinerate foes.
Smite is sort of like League of Legends with deities. Players take on the role of gods from various cultures. Armed with a variety of magical abilities, they must fight their way through the enemy team and its minions. In order to win the match, they must defeat the Minotaur in the enemy's base.
The upside to using an ancient Greek god is that it's unlikely to cause any controversy. Hi-Rez ruffled some feathers by including Hindu deities in the game.
