Jason Clarke Will Star In Stephen Gaghan Crime Drama Candy Store

Australian actor Jason Clarke has been working in film and television since the mid-'90s, but broke onto the American movie scene in a major way with the one-two punch of Lawless and Zero Dark Thirty. When I saw the former film, I marveled at his growling bravado and thought, 'Where did this guy come from?' With the latter, I knew Clarke's career in Hollywood was just beginning to gear up.

It's been just days since word came that Clarke will star in the Rise of the Planet of the Apes sequel, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, but already this compelling performer is dropping details on another of his upcoming projects. Speaking with MTV on the Academy Awards' red carpet, Clarke revealed he'll be a part of the cast of Syriana writer-director Stephen Gaghan's Candy Store. Check out the video for his attempt to reveal as much as he's allowed about the curious crime drama.

Though he shied away from giving any details on the plot, we know from previous reports that the story follows a deep-cover operative who's forced to work as a beat cop in Brooklyn after his life essentially implodes. But he has a chance for redemption when he realizes the organization he once infiltrated is infesting his new neighborhood.

Last summer Brad Pitt and Denzel Washington were reportedly in talks to star, while Christoph Waltz was up for a character called Black Zenga. By November, Washington's name had dropped from casting updates, and Chris Hemsworth's had been added. However, as Clarke hasn't commented further on casting, we don't currently know who is slated to star in the film, aside from him. In the meantime, look for Clarke this summer in Baz Luhrmann's lavish adaptation of The Great Gatsby, playing jilted husband George Wilson.
