Judd Nelson Holds A Grudge

Judd Nelson is a cautionary tale for all of us. You can be the hottest thing in the world in your youth. You can even make it through to adulthood without getting involved in a sex tape scandal, unlike some of your fellow actors (how ya doin', Rob Lowe?) You can even remain vaguely handsome, albeit in a Comic-Con attendee kind of way. But you still will not have a career.

Yes, Judd Nelson has done a lot of things right in this world, but that hasn't saved him from starring in direct-to-DVD horror sequels. He'll be one of the unlucky bunch that's been cast in The Grudge 3, according to Bloody Disgusting. Also included are Saw star Shawnee Smith and a bunch of names I've never heard of-- William Devane, Jo Braddy, Beau Mirchoff and Johanna E. Braddy. Sounds pretty par for the course for a direct-to-DVD release, though throwing in someone from Saw will probably add a little extra appeal for horror fans.

I guess we can all be glad that they won't try and put this in theatres, as they did with the first two Grudge movies. And we can be glad that Nelson is still, technically, a working actor, since that seems to be what makes him happy. But it's depressing that the end result of the Japanese horror remake trend is this, a bound-to-be crappy movie that brings down a bunch of actors with it. You'd think something like this would be able to kill the genre entirely, but it doesn't seem to be going anywhere yet. At least going straight to DVD is a step in the right direction.
