At the end of Kenneth Branagh's Thor, the titular hero (Chris Hemsworth) was forced to destroy the powerful Rainbow Bridge in order to stop his brother Loki (Tom Hiddleston) from killing many innocent people. This action had severe personal consequences, of course, as this meant that Thor was cut off from his love, the beautiful, brilliant Jane Foster (Natalie Portman). During the events of The Avengers, when Thor actually managed to travel back to Earth to once again stop his sibling, he was still cut off from Jane, as she was moved away by S.H.I.E.L.D. for her own protection. It's been a long, long time since Thor and Jane have been able to see each other, and as you can see in the latest clip from Thor: The Dark World above the wait is not something that Jane been too happy about.
This may just be an example of slow thinking on my end, but it was only while watching this scene that I realized that Jane has had no idea what's been going on with Thor since they left each others' side in the first movie. I suppose I assumed that she was able to somehow find out about the Rainbow Bridge being destroyed and knew why her boyfriend had ceased calling. Between this clip and the previously released trailer it's also become clear that Jane has a lot of fun slapping around Asgardians:
In addition to reuniting Thor and Jane, this new clip also gives us an extremely quick hint about one of Thor: The Dark World's side plots. In their conversation the God of Thunder quickly mentions that Jane has somehow managed to become invisible to the sight of Heimdall (Idris Elba), which is basically impossible because Heimdall has the ability to hear and see all things in the nine realms. If Jane is escaping his sight then something is very, very wrong. But what? In the extended footage that was shown at this summer's D23 Expo it was revealed that there is some kind of potentially fatal energy buildup in the young woman, but the implications of exactly what that means is unknown at this point.
Thor: The Dark World, which also stars Stellan Skarsgård, Christopher Eccleston, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Kat Dennings, Ray Stevenson, Zachary Levi, Tadanobu Asano, Jaimie Alexander, Rene Russo and Anthony Hopkins, will be released by Marvel Studios and Disney in theaters on November 8th.
