Peebles Gets Yellow Wood

After the surprise critical hit of 2004, Baadassss! (at least it won Ebert's approval), Mario Van Peebles is on to direct another feature. That's good, because there are few names more fun to say than Mario Van Peebles. It's the main excuse I had for covering this story.

According to Hollywood Reporter, Peebles has signed on to direct the mystery thriller Yellow Wood for Spyglass Entertainment. He will also act in the film.

The story is about a woman who's older sister was murdered eons ago, and has come back to haunt her. Working with an extreme researcher (a lot like an extreme skateboarder, only with a microscope and free drugs), she travels into the dreamscape and finds a way to relive and alter the past. Naturally, things don't work out as planned, because how exciting would that be? Describing the story, Peebles explains, "It's where quantum physics meets spirituality, and there's this tricky nebula of parallel lives”.

Sounds like a metaphysical rehash of Timecop. Production dates have not yet been listed but don't you worry, we'll let you know when we hear anything.
