The upcoming musical parody movie Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping looks to be Spinal Tap for a viral generation. The mock pop-umentary comes from the minds of The Lonely Island and as such it’s filled with hilarious songs and dozens of celebrity cameos. If anyone was curious how lewd a movie written by the guys who wrote the songs I Just Had Sex and Jizz In My Pants would be, rest assured the raunch will be dialed pretty high. And one of the raunchy things you can expect to see in the movie is full frontal nudity. Specifically, full frontal nudity from a certain Hollywood A-lister. If you were hoping for Adam Levine you might be disappointed, because comedy director superstar Judd Apatow is going full frontal in Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping.
Judd Apatow, arguably the biggest modern day comedy director, served as a mentor for The Lonely Island, as well as a producer, to help them out with their first movie. Apatow, who’s directed comedies like Knocked Up, Trainwreck, and 40-Year Old Virgin, is a pretty good guy to have looking over your shoulder. In addition to pitching a ton of jokes, Apatow also helped find the emotional center of the movie. But according to Andy Samberg, Jorma Taccone, and Akiva Schaffer, Apatow also wanted the opportunity to show his penis on film. In an interview with Billboard, the trio revealed that Apatow really wanted to be in a nude scene before it was too late. As Schaffer remembers, it was all Apatow’s idea:
He wanted to show it because he was like, ‘I’ve had this normal but really well-proportioned dick my whole life, and I’ve never shown it. And I’m afraid I’m getting older and going to lose the bod soon.'
If you’ve got it, flaunt it. It’s a little unclear which scene audiences will be able to see said penis, but it will apparently be in the window of a car. So, if you see a penis hanging out the window of a car, you can shout out in the theater with some certainty, "That’s Judd Apatow!"
Popstar follows Conner4Real (Andy Samberg), a clueless megastar who needs to change the direction of his life and career after his new album tanks. Conner will have to make amends with the bandmates from his old hip-hop group, The Style Boyz, (played by Jorma Taccone and Akiva Schaffer) in order to make it back on top. The film was written by the trio and is directed by Taccone and Schaffer.
You’ll be able to see Judd Apatow’s "well-proportioned penis" and hear some catchy songs in Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping, which hits theaters this summer on June 3.
