Subscribe To RZA And Grant Morrison Teaming Up For Happy! Comic Book Adaptation Updates
After years of brilliant work as a comic book writer, creating books like "Arkham Asylum: A Serious House on Serious Earth," and "All-Star Superman," Grant Morrison is making his way into the film industry, and he's doing so with Wu-Tang Clan rapper-turned-filmmaker RZA. News out of New York Comic Con says that the two will be teaming up on an adaptation of Morrison's newest comic, Happy!, which RZA will direct and Morrison will write.

THR reports the project news and adds that Reginald Hudlin, who most recently produced Quentin Tarantino's Django Unchained, is aboard the new film as a producer. While the project is obviously still in the early stages, the trade says they plan on developing it further before getting in bed with a studio or financier.

Written by Morrison and illustrated by Darick Robertson ("The Boys," "Transmetropolitan"), Happy! tells the story of a former cop cum hitman named Nick Sax who is badly injured in a botched job. As a result of the injury he suddenly starts to see a little blue horse named Happy "who won’t give in to adversity, no matter what unpleasant obstacles come in the way." Sax then teams up with his new imaginary friend to try and redeem himself by hunting down a child killer in a Santa suit at Christmas time. Image Comics debuted the first issue last month and THR likens the tone as a mix of "It’s a Wonderful Life, Sin City, and Care Bears."

This will be the first time that Morrison is credited as a screenwriter, though he wrote the original story for the direct-to-video animated All-Star Superman movie that came out last year. RZA's directorial debut, The Man With The Iron Fists, will be in theaters November 2nd.
