Robosapien Toy Grips A Movie

Most of the time, movies spawn toys, not the other way around. When the world is turned on its head, and a toy spawns a movie, the results are usually so awful that you’re better off not remembering them. So add this to the list of things you’d like to forget about: ComingSoon says the production company of Marvel head Avi Arad has teamed up with toy company Wowwee to make a movie out of Robosapien.

Robosapien is that really cool looking, but overpriced little robot you see sitting on the shelves at Best Buy. You know, the one you always think looks a lot cooler than it probably really is. It’s the sort of thing you walk past, wonder about, but then are never quite stupid enough to actually buy. Or at least all but 4,000,000 of us aren’t stupid enough. Wowwee claims to have sold more than 4,000,000 Robosapien units worldwide. I’m willing to bet that almost all of those were sold in Japan.

The movie they’re turning him into is expected to be a mix of live action and computer animation. It’ll be a family film, so expect some sort of boy and his robot story.

Arad is also behind the upcoming Bratz: The Movie, a film based on a toyline of incredibly slutty dolls for little girls. Why does the guy who helped bring you Raimi’s brilliant Spider-Man movies want to make junk like this? He says, “The toy industry is my first love.” Money is his second love.
