Samantha Morton Takes Control

"Joy Division" was an extremely popular band from England. They were around in the 1970's and had a rapid cult following. Younger crowds may know them best by the awesome song "Love Will Tear Us Apart" featured in Donnie Darko.

My point? Well, a movie based on the band is coming out. According to Variety, Samantha Morton is in talks to star in Control about the last years of lead singer Ian Curtis's life, before his suicide in 1980. She would play his widow, Deborah Curtis. Anton Corbijn will make his feature directorial debut. Matt Greenhalgh will pen the screenplay.based on Deborah's story "Touching From A Distance".

Unlike the horrendous Gus Van Sant movie Last Days, this film will be an accurate account of what happened in a rocker's final stretch, and people will do more than walk around without speaking for 2 hours (hopefully!) The plot centers on Ian's struggle between loving his wife while simultaneously beginning a relationship with another woman, his famous rock career, and to top it off, his bouts with epilepsy.

Control does not yet have a cast lined up, including the lead role. Morton is the first to hop on board. At the very least, you can bet the film will have a rockin' soundtrack.
