See Poltergeist On The Big Screen

It’s been 25 years since the catchphrase “They’re here” first landed in popular culture, with the Steven Spielberg movie Poltergiest. Written and produced by Spielberg and directed by Tobe Hooper (something many people seem to forget), the spooky movie is having its anniversary celebrated with a new DVD edition, as most would expect. But, if you’re really lucky, you might have the chance to see Poltergiest on the big screen again too.

Warner Home Entertainment is teaming up with National CineMedia’s Fathom to bring the newly remastered classic film to 250 theaters across the country for one day. Even more specifically: on October 4th, 250 lucky theaters will carry the film for one showing only (7:30pm local time). How’s that for a limited run? Tickets are available at the local theater box offices and through FathomEvents.Com. The site also has a comprehensive list of the theaters participating in the one show presentation – something tells me those of us living in less populated cities will be SoL.

The 25th Anniversary DVD for the movie will hit stores a week later on October 9th. For more details on that DVD release, check out our DVD Blend story.
