Sin City 3 Is Already In The Works
It took nearly a decade for Robert Rodriguez and Frank Miller to reteam after working on 2005’s Sin City. Despite the fact that Rodriguez kept promising that a sequel was in the works, he kept putting his attention towards other projects, constantly delaying what would wind up being Sin City: A Dame To Kill For. But now that the sequel is less than a month away from release, Rodriguez and Miller are apparently once again talking about a follow-up.
During the Sin City: A Dame To Kill For at San Diego Comic-Con this afternoon, Frank Miller revealed to the crowds in Hall H that he and Robert Rodriguez have already begun having discussions about possibly making Sin City 3. While the legendary comic book writer/artist wasn’t bursting at the seams with details, he did say, “Robert and I are already talking about Sin City 3. So you better show up for number two, or they won’t pay for it.”
If Sin City: A Dame To Kill For can follow the success of its predecessor, it shouldn’t be too much of an issue for yet another movie to get the greenlight. Made for a reported budget of just $40 million, Sin City wound up making a solid $74 million at the domestic box office, and wound up more than doubling that overseas, bringing in $84 million for a $158 million worldwide total. That said, Rodriguez has always been extremely skilled at making professional-looking movies on the cheap, and even if Sin City 2 underperformers there’s a chance that the director could make a third film work anyway.
How fans will actually react to Sin City: A Dame To Kill For when it hits theaters remains quite a perplexing mystery. Nine years is definitely a long time between movies, and one has to wonder if those who really loved the first film have just moved on by this point. The new one definitely has style points going for it, not to mention an all-star cast, but will it be able to bring in an audience.
Sin City: A Dame To Kill For - co-directed by both Robert Rodriguez and Frank Miller – tells a whole new set of stories based on Miller’s original graphic novel series, and features returning stars Mickey Rourke, Jessica Alba, Bruce Willis, Rosario Dawson, Powers Booth and Jamie King in addition to newcomers like Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Josh Brolin, Ray Liotta, Eva Green, Dennis Haysbert, Christopher Lloyd and Jeremy Piven. You can look for the film in theaters on August 22nd, but in the meantimem hit the comments section below to tell us if you’re excited for Sin City 2 and maybe even Sin City 3.
