We got a taste of some amazing art from J.J. Abrams’ Star Wars: The Force Awakens this past August – but that was really just a teaser featuring a small handful of characters. Now the upcoming blockbuster's full poster has been revealed and it is absolutely perfect. Check it out below!
The newest trailer for Star Wars: The Force Awakens will be debuting tomorrow night on ESPN during the Monday Night Football game, but today the legendary sci-fi franchise has helped whet our appetites by providing the full one-sheet that weirdly only now makes the seventh chapter in the franchise feel better connected to the six titles that preceded it.
Star Wars has a history of packing these posters with a tremendous amount of flashy imagery to dazzle the mind, so let’s break down the new artwork piece-by-piece just to fully grasp the full scope of the image.
The TopFans are certainly excited to see the return of some classic characters in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, but the top of the poster is entirely dedicated to new faces and new elements. This includes the villainous Kylo Ren (Adam Driver), and the heroic duo of Rey (Daisy Ridley) and Finn (John Boyega). We should also point out that the big scary thing on the right side is neither a moon nor a Death Star. It’s actually the Starkiller Base – a former ice planet transformed by the First Order to become a weapon capable of destroying star systems.
The MiddleThere is a lot of fresh material to draw on for the first time on this Star Wars: The Force Awakens poster, and it’s why the middle of the piece features pilot Poe Dameron (Oscar Isaac) and the lovable new droid BB-8, but this is really the part of the poster that is used to show us some of the more recognizable material from the saga. It still doesn’t provide us with a look at the return of Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill), but this is the first time in many years that we've seen Han Solo (Harrison Ford), Princess Leia (Carrie Fisher), Chewbacca (Peter Mayhew), C-3PO (Anthony Daniels) and R2-D2 (Kenny Baker) all together on an official movie poster. There is one little question with which this part of the poster leaves me: who is the little alien standing next to R2?
The BottomCaptain Phasma (Gwendoline Christie) has a pretty great stand-out position right above the title on this poster, but the bottom portion of the image is definitely more dedicated to action than character reveals. The rows of Stormtroopers certainly look threatening, and it’s great to see both the X-Wings and Millennium Falcon back in action and flying around TIE Fighters and Star Destroyers. Almost brings a tear to your eye.
We will have the next Star Wars: The Force Awakens trailer for you as soon as it arrives online tomorrow night, but for now, what do you think of this amazing piece of artwork? Hit the comments with your thoughts, and get pumped for December 18th.
