War Games Gets A Sequel

Before he was Ferris Bueller Mathew Broderick was best known for saving the world from nuclear devastation at the hands of a confused computer. The year was 1983 and the movie was War Games, a film born out of cold war paranoia and a fundamental fear of the still very new and unknown technology of computers.

War Games was a product of its time, but somehow Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III director Stuart Gillard thinks he can make a sequel out of it. With that kind of pedigree, who are we to disagree?

Production Weekly is reporting that Gillard has been tapped to helm the sequel from a script penned by Surf II writer Randall M. Badat. Wow, another genius.

Right now they're calling this thing War Games 2: The Dead Game, though they might as well have just gone and called it Stealth. Come on, that's basically what Stealth was, a War Games sequel.

In the original, Broderick was one of the cinema's first teenage hackers. For this new War Games sequel, the story will focus on another teenage hacker who plays an online terrorist-attack simulator against a government computer designed for combating terrorists. The geniuses at Homeland Security become convinced that he's actually terrorist himself, and things start to go a little bit nuts.
