New What To Expect When You're Expecting Trailer Takes Aim At The Male Audience

Inspired by the ubiquitous pregnancy bible, What To Expect When You're Expecting is a romantic comedy that follows five couples preparing for parenthood. And while the first trailer gave us a look at what impending motherhood does to the likes of Cameron Diaz, Jennifer Lopez, Elizabeth Banks, Brooklyn Decker and Anna Kendrick, the latest trailer is all about the dudes.

Here the spotlight is shined on the daddies of Dude Group, who wear BabyBjorns with serious swagger and have a few rules to keep every bro-dude in check. One: What's said in Dude Group stays in Dude Group. Two: There's no judging among dudes. Chris Rock, Thomas Lennon, Ben Falcone, Rob Huebel and Amir Talai lay it down for new dad Rodrigo Santoro in this latest promo.

With a cast stacked with amiable stars and cutting comedians, What To Expect When You're Expecting seemed promising; however, these trailers reveal just how overstuffed with storylines this flick is, leaving me to ponder how satisfying the storytelling could possibly be. Ever since the resounding success of Love Actually studios have been seeking to pile up massive star power in charming rom-com packaging, yet none have thus far proved a match to their inspiration (remember Valentine's Day and New Year's Eve?). And I doubt Kirk Jones, the director of the painfully dull Everybody's Fine, will break the streak. Tack on this trailer's emphasis on the daddies' us-versus-mommies mentality, and What To Expect falls into deeply tired territory. Beyond that it's baffling to me that Lionsgate seems to think men will be attracted to this title, even with a trailer dripping in Hangover-styled child-endangerment humor.

What To Expect When You're Expecting opens May 18th. Head over to our Blend Film Database to see more from the movie.
