Playing a pirate on screen? You might take sword-fighting lessons to improve your accuracy. Supposed to play an athlete? You likely are going to hit the gym with a physical trainer before shooting. But what do you do if you are preparing to play pop culture’s most popular dom in Fifty Shades of Grey? The answer probably won’t surprise you.

Jamie Dornan opened up about his preparation process for Fifty Shades of Grey to Elle UK, and explained that one important thing he managed to do while developing the role of Christian Grey was to visit a sex dungeon. Wait, what? Dornan elaborated that it wasn’t quite what he was expecting, and it was very difficult to assimilate back into his personal life right after the visit:
"I went there, they offered me a beer, and they did…whatever they were into. I saw a dominant with one of his two submissives. I was like: 'Come on guys I know I'm not paying for this but I am expecting a show.' It was an interesting evening. Then going back to my wife and newborn baby afterwards... I had a long shower before touching either of them."

The Elle UK article doesn’t reveal much else. It’s a tease for an eventual cover story. But that sort of plays into Christian Grey, who is a mysterious (and deeply disturbed) suitor for Anastasia Steele – played in the movie by beautiful young starlet Dakota Johnson. The movie is based on the wildly successful bestseller Fifty Shades of Grey, authored by E.L. James. And from what we are hearing, the interest level in the steamy drama already is through the roof. Earlier, we reported that – according to YouTube -- Fifty Shades of Grey was the most-viewed trailer of 2014, topping the number of views amassed by Star Wars: The Force Awakens and The Avengers: Age of Ultron. Which trailer, you might ask? This sultry reel:

How do you think audiences are going to react when they learn that Jamie Dornan went to such graphic lengths to bring sexual authenticity to his role in Fifty Shades? I’m guessing this is going to be a HUGE date movie on February 13, and the counterprogramming of Kingsman: The Secret Service won’t make much of a dent. We shall see!
