Tom Hiddleston Shares First Look At Loki From The Set Of Thor: Ragnarok
The Marvel Cinematic Universe has produced numerous great heroes, however, they've only made a few great villains. The best of them, on the big screen anyway, is Tom Hiddleston's Loki, and we're so excited to see him once again. Hiddleston is on the set of Thor: Ragnarok for what could be his last time playing the trickster god. Man, we've missed him so much.
Tom Hiddleston is ready to rock the set of Thor: Ragnarok based on this Instagram photo and we couldn't be happier. When last we left Loki in Thor: The Dark World, he had supplanted Odin and taken his place as the king of Asgard. In disguise, only the audience knows what has happened, though we don't expect that will last very long. If nothing else, keeping Loki in disguise just means that we get more of Sir Anthony Hopkins, and less of Tom Hiddleston, this would be unfortunate (no offense Sir Anthony). We don't know much else about what Loki will be doing in the new film, beyond the fact that his focus might not be on Thor. While we can't imagine what else he'll be doing, there are certainly a lot of new characters that he could be mixing it up with.
If there's one place where the Marvel Cinematic Universe has not done as good a job, it's in the villain category. For the most part, each one has been a generic character with a forgettable name and vague motive. Marvel has pointed out that, for the most part, this is an unfortunate consequence of the fact that the movies just aren't about the bad guy, they're about the hero, and so the villain doesn't get as much screen time to develop. In the original Thor, we got to spend much more time with Loki and understand his motives, making him a much stronger antagonist. It was no wonder he was brought back to be the big bad of The Avengers as well.
Thor: Ragnarok has become something of a star-studded affair. In addition to the returning Tom Hiddleston and Chris Hemsworth as Thor, the film will also include The Incredible Hulk, Mark Ruffalo, as well as several new characters to the MCU, being played by the likes of Tessa Thompson, Jeff Goldblum, and Cate Blanchett.
The other new addition to Thor: Ragnarok that we think will probably bode well for Tom Hiddleston's performance is the director Taika Waititi. Part of what Marvel was apparently looking for was to make Ragnarok a funnier film than its predecessors. As Loki was already one of the comedic highlights of the films, we expect the new style will match him quite nicely.
