5 Major Things The Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2 Trailer Just Revealed

The Marvel Cinematic Universe loves to revise certain characters and events in different movies, but that's easy to do when you're on Earth. When the action takes place elsewhere in the universe, revising is a harder task. It's been over two years since fans have seen the Guardians of the Galaxy, but fortunately, we're nearly half a year from reuniting with them in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. As such, Marvel finally decided to drop the first official preview for the sequel earlier today.

At a little under 90 seconds, this preview made sure not to reveal anything to juicy about what's coming in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, but that doesn't mean it wasn't packed with cool moments. Here are the five biggest things we noticed, not including Drax awkwardly hugging Star-Lord. Okay, maybe that's not big in terms of plot, but we can't help but grin seeing those two share a weird bonding moment.

The Giant Energy Ball

Yeah, we don't really know what else to call that thing in the shot above other than a giant energy ball. Nevertheless, it looks menacing. At some point in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, Gamora will find herself near that monstrosity and be forced to pull out her sword and charge toward an unseen adversary. At the moment, we're guessing that this energy ball is some kind of core that powers either an impressive machine. Maybe it's the doomsday weapon that frequently pops up in the third act of these kinds of movies. If that's the case, Gamora may be arriving to disable said weapon, but has to deal with an enemy beforehand. We have faith she can take care of that obstacle quickly.

Chaos Around Rocket And Yondu

The Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 footage showed at San Diego Comic-Con revealed that Rocket and Yondu will be getting into some shenanigans together. After being captured by a band of rogue Ravagers, they'll be rescued be Baby Groot and wreak havoc against their jailers. It's hard to tell whether the scene above takes place during their escape or on another mission, but either way, they have nothing to worry about from the bad guys. Somehow their adversaries have been thrown into the air, which results in an insanely cool slo-mo shot of Rocket and Groot casually walking on a bridge as everyone around them drops to the ground. Now would be a good time for someone to start blasting "Let the Bodies Hit the Floor." Later in the preview, there's a shot of a some kind of blue energy knocking a group of creepy-looking dudes into the air, but that appears to take place in a different setting, so it's hard to tell what's going on in this particular scene.

Crash-Landing On A Strange Planet

Our main protagonists are guardians of an entire galaxy, which means the action can't be restricted to just one planet. Their adventures have taken them to many different worlds, but it looks like they won't arrive on one of those worlds with the smoothest of landings. In the scene above, Star-Lord, Gamora and Drax are departing from a ship that looks like its latter half has been ripped clean off. The planet itself is covered with trees, but the trailer didn't provide any hint about what's going on there. At least they have plenty of supplies on hand for the journey. So where exactly have the characters landed? That's hard to say, but we have one guess which we'll talk about later.

First Look At Baby Groot

How do you guarantee that your first Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 preview ends perfectly? Easy, you throw in Baby Groot. We've already seen concept art of Groot in his infant form, and the lucky folks who attended the movie's San Diego Comic-Con panel were able to see him in action. Now the rest of us finally have our first legitimate peek at him, even though it's literally only for two seconds. Rocket has smoothly blasted an enemy combatant, and as he smugly peers through that wall, Baby Groot pops up on his shoulder and squeaks. It's a short, but a wonderful tease of the cuteness in store for the tiny tree alien. What's even better is that Baby Groot is wearing a leather jacket. Guys, little Baby Groot has his own uniform. So adorable!

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2

No Mantis Or Ego

A good first trailer/preview is careful to whet audience appetites, but not give away everything that's coming. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 accomplished that perfectly. It didn't spoil any plot points, but it still provided enough imagery and character moments to get us even more excited for the movie until the next trailer drops. That said, with the exception of those nameless goons, all of the characters were folks we already met in the first movie. We were hoping to at least see quick glimpses of Mantis or Ego, two of the major new players. The former will be one of the new Guardians, while the latter is Peter Quill's father in the MCU. Still, good things come to those who wait, so we're eager to find out when we'll see them in action for the first time. Oh, and before we forget, since Ego's full name is Ego the Living Planet, what are the chances that the world the Guardians have crashed on is actually him? He will have a humanoid form in the movie (hence why we'll see Kurt Russell in all his glory), but maybe before then, they'll get to explore a small portion of his "planetary body."
