New La La Land Trailer Puts A Jazzy John Legend Song In The Spotlight

The soundtrack to Damien Chazelle's La La Land is filled with amazing songs from beginning to end, and they aren't all sung by stars Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone. In fact, one of the most exciting numbers in the movie is actually performed by hit artist John Legend, and you can hear it for yourself as the centerpiece for the film's latest trailer. Watch it below!

For those who haven't seen La La Land yet, John Legend actually plays a supporting role in the film, primarily involved with Ryan Gosling's character, Seb. He plays Keith, a musician who, unlike Seb, believes that jazz needs to evolve in order to survive in modern culture. As Mia (Emma Stone) is pursuing her acting goals by setting up her own one-woman show, Seb agrees to sign on to play keyboards for Keith's new group, The Messengers, and they actually wind up becoming quite successful. The song featured in this new trailer, "Start A Fire," is part of a concert sequence in the film, and it definitely gets your toe tapping in the theater.

The reason why we're seeing this exciting new trailer for La La Land now is because while the movie started out in limited release back in early December, it is no longer so limited. The feature is now in theaters everywhere, and it's definitely one that all of you should be checking out. It's a truly magnificent piece of cinema from the same director that gave us the terrific Whiplash, and among the Cinema Blend staff it was widely considered one of the best films in 2016. Even if you're not a big fan of musicals (like me), this is still a cinematic experience that you should pursue. It's delightful, inspiring, and really everything that you want from a time at cineplex.

It should also be noted that there's a very good chance that you'll be reading a lot more about La La Land in the coming weeks here on the site. This is especially because we are now in the heart of award season, and Damien Chazelle's movie is expected to pick up a whole lot of hardware from various groups and organizations. For example, the Golden Globes are this Sunday, and the film is not only nominated in seven different categories, but expected to win many of them... including Best Original Song "City Of Stars," which you can listen to in the clip below!

Naturally, we'll be keeping a very close eye on the show and La La Land's performance, so stay tuned for our coverage!
