First Look At Finn's New Blaster In Star Wars: The Last Jedi

When it comes to iconic weaponry, it doesn't get much better than a lightsaber, but those in the Star Wars universe who were not born with a surplus of midichlorians have to settle for second best: a blaster. Not the fanciest weapon in the galaxy for sure, but it's one that comes in tons of different variations and just about everyone seems to use it. It's only right then that Finn gets a blaster of his very own, which we'll see him use in Star Wars: The Last Jedi. John Boyega is generously sharing the blaster ahead of time. Check it out.

Taking to Instagram, John Boyega offered the very first look at his character Finn's new blaster. In the caption, Boyega wrote that he was the "proud owner" of the blaster, courtesy of his director Rian Johnson. It sounds like Johnson rewarded Boyega for his hard work on set with a prop from The Last Jedi, which is a pretty cool token to keep! Those things don't grow on tree's, so it's a pretty nice gesture all things considered. Fans will remember that Finn didn't have much in the way of possessions for Star Wars: The Force Awakens. He usually just took stuff that he found on the ground like blasters, lightsabers, and dope jackets. Now it seems he's finally got something he can call his own.

As for the blaster design itself, there's not really a whole lot to point out. The most notable feature on it is that it lights up with a blue color along the top whenever the trigger is pulled. This actually has a few purposes. If you followed along with the filmmaking of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, then you know for the lightsaber props actually lit up with their corresponding color. This was done not only to better immerse the actors in the scene but to provide a source of lighting for the camera. One would also imagine that it made things a little easier for the digital effects team too. Now it looks like that mechanic has been passed on to blasters as well.

Finn will likely be putting that blaster to good use in The Last Jedi against the First Order. Much of the plot has yet to be revealed, but we know that Finn will be spending a good amount of time with Poe Dameron and new character Rose on a secret mission for the Resistance. One would imagine that this mission will involve at least a little shooting.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi is scheduled to hit theaters on December 15, 2017. To learn as much as you can about the highly anticipated sequel before then, make sure to check out everything we know so far.
